In Meadow Mari there are 12 cases (Bereczki 1990), or, according to other sources 10 (Alhoniemi 1985) or 9 (Riese et al. 2022). The number of pronominal case forms is four (Bereczki 1990), in other sources five (Beke 1911) or 6 (Alhoniemi 1985, Uchayev 1982). Pronominal cases are not syncretic, the missing case forms are expressed with the help of postpositions.
